Members of IAM Mechanics Local 701 recently lent a helping hand to a local community center as part of the IAM Midwest Territory’s IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community program.
Members of the Local 701 Community Outreach Committee, Local 701 members, Local leadership, and their families gathered at the Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream, IL to paint and provide much-needed spring cleaning at the facility.
“Everyone that pitched in left with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment knowing that we helped our neighborhood outreach center and the surrounding community that benefits year-round from the services that the center provides,” said IAM Local 701 Directing Business Representative Sam Cicinelli. “Thank you to Business Representative Walter Emerson for coordinating this wonderful event. And thank you to the Local 701 Community Outreach Committee, our members, staff, Executive Board members – and everyone’s family – who came out, volunteered, and donated one Saturday towards giving back to our community. It was a great event.”
The Carol Stream Outreach Community Center provides youth development services such as the Big Buddy Mentoring Program; academic support for elementary, middle, high school and college; family stabilization services such as counseling; and community development.
IAM H.E.L.P.S. in the Community is a Midwest Territory initiative aimed at providing essential support to residents in need. H.E.L.P.S. stands for Honoring, Engaging, Lifting, Providing and Servicing.
“To the members of IAM Mechanics Local 701, their families, and all the volunteers that came together and took part in such a great event – job well done,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Steve Galloway. “What better way to lend a helping hand than to help those who help others. Helping the community center provide a clean, more welcoming facility for residents in need of important human services means that’s one less thing for their staff to worry about. They can focus more of their efforts where it counts.”
